FAQs

I’ve never had a Craniosacral Therapy session. What should I expect?

We will start our time together with a conversation about what brings you to craniosacral therapy and discuss the aspects of your history that will support our time together. The session will take place (fully clothed) on a massage table under covers if the temperature is cold. I will start at your feet and together we will settle, giving your body time to sink and relax. With your permission, I will move to different parts of your body, laying my hands gently to support areas of restriction including the cranium and sacrum. The sessions can be quiet but we will be in communication about your experiences throughout. Session length is roughly 50 minutes--sometimes shorter if your body receives the work quickly, sometimes longer if you need time to process. The end of the session will also be slow. The work will continue to unfold for the next 24-48 hours. During this time, rest and hydration is important.

What is IMT?

Integrative Manual Therapy is light touch structural and energetic discipline created by Sharon Weiselfish Giammatteo, DPT based on her studies with leading Craniosacral Therapists, Visceral Manipulators, and Osteopaths. Her unique integration of these systems supports the body in a precise and organic way.

What kind of Yoga and Pilates do you teach?

I have trained heavily in both disciplines for the last 30 years and have created my own flavor of the work. I am a Hatha Yogi at the core with an emphasis on breath, somatic movement sequences (which are shorter than most vinyasa sequences), alignment and biomechanical exploration, and meditation. I support longer holds, time for questions, the liberal use of props, and explorations of special topics.

Pilates is a home base for me and I bring the assessment techniques I’ve learned there onto the yoga mat. I have studied with Madeline Black for nearly 15 years and continue to assist in her online programs when I can. I have a bias toward improving functional movement without losing the whimsy and joy of play.

Do I have to mix modalities in my sessions?

No. The sessions are a dialogue between us and will flow in the best direction possible to address your needs.

Do I need to prepare anything before the session?

You will receive an intake form and a consent to treat/liability waiver, which can be completed online. If need be, we can do the intake form together during the first session. No other preparation is required.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothes that you could easily move in. BCST/IMT occurs in a comfortable position and I want you to be able to rest. Be prepared to remove big jewelry, watches and belts. You will also take off your shoes. Yoga attire needs to be flexible to allow freedom of movement.

What happens if I need other support?

I have strong connections with a number of wonderful practitioners in traditional and non-traditional modalities. We can figure out together what you might need to compliment your process.

How soon should I book another session?

The most common rhythm for acute or complex conditions is weekly for at least 3 sessions. If there is stagnation and stuckness, 1 or 2 sessions monthly tends to be very helpful. Check-ins can happen at any time and can align with your life and goals, seasonal changes, or known stressors like the holiday season.

What are your Covid precautions?

We ask that you please abstain from sessions if you are at all at risk. (see the Covid policy, for more information.) We will be attentive to the CDC guidelines and will continue to wear masks and sanitize shared items for the foreseeable future. Community safety is our priority.

What do I do if I get sick with something besides Covid?

If you are getting sick with ANY illness, I encourage you to cancel the session. If you are within the 24-hour cancellation policy and you do not have Covid, you will have 7 days to make up your session without accruing a late cancellation fee (subject to availability). If you do have Covid, you will have up to 2 months to complete the session.

What payment methods do you accept?

I accept credit cards via Square, Venmo, checks and cash.

What is your late cancellation policy?

Tenth House Health requires a minimum of 24 hours notice if you need to cancel a session. If you miss the 24-hour window, you will be responsible for the full fee for service unless you are ill and can schedule a make up in the required amount of time.

When and why do packages expire?

Packages of 3 expire in 3 months. Packages of 10 expire in 6 months. Package expirations encourage you to use the sessions in the timeframe where they will be most effective. Too much space between sessions doesn’t allow the work to take root.
