Odds and Ends and Autumnal Yearnings

Dear Friends,

The next 3 weeks are some of my favorite weather of the entire year. I love the autumn color and crispness. This will be my first fall in Athens and I’m very excited to experience the change of season.

Tenth House Health: RESTORE is a very different experience than a weekly class. It’s a retreat and reset for the body and mind designed to break us out of our routines. The workshop will include gentle sound, meditation, restful poses held languorously, and a very long savasana in which each participant will receive a mini-craniosacral session. Let’s relax together. Sign up is available online or simply drop me an email.

Yoga is for YOU! The collaboration with the DR EVARTS Library is officially scheduled.

This is a free workshop geared for people who feel unable to practice yoga due to age or pain issues. Please forward to anyone you know who might benefit. Movement is a powerful analgesic.

DATE: Friday, October 15

TIME: 10:30am-12pm

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral Therapy has its origins in Osteopathy. The philosophy is holistic, supporting the view that the body will enter a healing process if it is given the time and space to do so. Over my 20 years of practice, I’ve been startled by how effective the work can be for emotional regulation, structural pain relief, somatic pain reduction (the kind of pain that just never seems to go away no matter what you do), and stress management.

The work takes place fully clothed on a massage table. The touch is light and the contact is something we establish together. The experience is different every time. Sometimes we go through a lot of sensation, sometimes we fall into deep healing states, sometimes memories surface and questions arise. Because the work deals with the whole of you, the whole of you shows up to the work in order to heal.

After the session, I have found that it takes many hours to integrate the experience. Usually the client senses increases in signs of wellbeing. They feel longer, lighter, and more relaxed. Many clients report deep sleep. Then the areas of interest start to shift. The back or neck pain lessons. The weight of depression starts to lift. It’s a process to be sure, but it’s one that yields more than symptom relief--it’s a kind of coming back to oneself--like having factory settings restored.

I hope that gives you a bit of a sense of the work and gentle nudge if you’ve been thinking of (re)booking.

Hope to see you soon at Tenth House.
