Infants and Craniosacral Therapy
Birth is intense for Babies.
Parents are very aware of how intense the birth process can be for each other, but they may not be aware that difficult births can have an impact on the overall wellness of their baby. The first days, weeks, and months of life are precious and craniosacral therapy can help minimize the impact of the stresses of late stage pregnancy and the forces of the birth process. This gentle approach to healing can increase the infant’s well being and the whole family’s ability to bond.
Emergency cesarean births, vacuum extractions and difficult labor can have a profound effect on the baby’s resilient and malleable nervous system. Craniosacral Therapists use light touch to help the infant settle, soften internal tensions, and restore freedom to tissues that may be restricted and causing discomfort.
Babies are dynamic and so ready to thrive that the easing of symptoms is possible in a handful of sessions and the benefits are clearly supportive both to them and the caregivers alongside them.
Sessions are free flowing based on everyone’s comfort. They take place either on a massage table or in the parents or caregivers arms, snuggled in clothes and blankets and sometimes feeding. The hand positions are sometimes specific relating to physical structures and sometimes holistic relating to the baby’s overall body and wellbeing. During treatment, babies react in all kinds of ways but generally there are periods of relaxation, communication and spunkiness.
It’s such a pleasure to be able to support families at this critical time, easing stress, and enhancing the specialness of the early weeks of life.
